The Farm to Table Movement and the Food Industry

Writer: Kurt DaKurt Da

The farm to table movement can be traced back to the 1960s and 1970s. Ironically, during the peak of the launch of canned goods and the convenience it brings to our daily lives, local food movements emphasized the importance of choosing healthier options. Years passed and the movement is still growing by the day. Enough for it to change most parts of the game in the food industry.

Fresh flavors and natural ingredients. When restaurants use high quality and fresh ingredients, it means that the dish can speak for itself. The farm to table movement emphasizes natural and fresh flavors innovated with the chef’s creativity. Since the ingredients are locally sourced, each one does not have to be blasted frozen in order to last for a long time. Each one is literally from the farm to your table. Not to mention, with this, you get to experiment with earthy flavors that the people will surely love.

Playing the consumer habits by ear. Since the onset of the pandemic, more and more people have become self aware of having healthy eating habits. They are not only concerned whether it has low calories or fat free, they also want to know where the food came from. Through farm to table movement, it is easier to address each concern without worrying that the food served may have lost most of its nutrients along the way.

Starting small. Farm to table initiatives always start small. It is through the support of the community that they slowly grow and enjoy the fresh bounty of nature. So through small acts, we create a ripple of healthier and safer choices.

One of Davao’s best resorts, the Malagos Garden Resort is one who faithfully advocates the farm to table movement. It is not only one of the most beautiful places in Davao, it is also an inland resort in Davao City that offers fresh, homegrown flavors for the entire family. They are closed yet but I heard they will be reopening soon. For the meantime, if you want to enjoy farm fresh produce, try out their Malagos Homegrown Produce. Really worth it.
